how to setup up a cybercafé in Nigeria

Thanks to technological advancements, so many persons now have businesses that are technologically inclined. Those still looking for businesses are also looking to join the technological revolution. One of these businesses is the cybercafé business. Here are things you need to know when it comes to how to setup up a cybercafé in Nigeria.

A cybercafé is a place where persons without internet access go to use the internet.  Now, during those days when Nigeria caught the internet bug, it was very easy to make loads of profit from the business but nowadays it’s not that easy anymore. Most Nigerians now own computers at home or at least an internet enabled phone. Therefore, the patronage of cybercafés is dwindling. However, this is not to say that the business is no longer thriving. You just need to step up your game by doing things others are not doing, one of which is unrivaled customer service. With solid customer service, you will easily outdo your competition.  You can also add technological trainings like Forex trading, web site deigning etc..

When it comes to budgeting for your cybercafé business, you have to take into consideration the following:

·         Location: The location of your cybercafé will definitely influence your budget. For example an office space in Wuse Abuja would be 5 to 6 times costlier than one in Nnewi, Anambra state. You get the gist. However do not shy away from the cost of office space and setup in a very poorly populated area!

·         Registration: Most cybercafé owners do not know this but you actually need to register with NCC (National Communication Commission) when setting up your business. It costs 15,000 naira to do this. You can ignore it of course but just pray the officials do not remember you!

·         What to purchase: The first thing here is the computers of course. Depending on you, you can go for fairly used ones (high risk!) which go for as low as N15, 000 or brand new ones starting from N50, 000. You also need to buy things like printers, photocopiers, laminating machines, scanners (document and fingerprints) etc.

·         Furnishing: You will need to put some furniture in the office space; you can decide to use wooden stuff or plastic. Don’t forget to create a partition for an inner office where things like tickets and so on will be sold from. Flooring should be tiles ideally, avoid using rugs.

·         Connection:  This is probably the most important bit. If you choose a rubbish VSAT provider, your business will suffer heavily. The cost of an average VSAT setup is in the region of 550-600,000. So you have to ensure that you select a good provider to avoid throwing money down the drain.

·         Timer: You have to setup a timer program so as to monitor clients’ time usage. Ensure it’s secured against hackers.

That’s pretty much all you need. Then after all is set get your staff and start work. Don’t forget to place a notice warning off scammers!

With this, you now know how to setup a cybercafé in Nigeria.
